Turnkey Product Development: From Idea to Mass Production

Industrial design, mechanical design, electronics, prototypes, tooling, injection molding, finishing and assembly, all by one Hongqing team in one factory. The R&D team includes Red Dot Design Award-winning designers. You bring the idea; we deliver a product ready for mass production.

Who this is for

Brands, start-ups and distributors who want to bring a product to market but do not have their own factory or engineering team.

You have an idea or a requirements list

You know the problem to solve, who will buy it and roughly at what price, but there are no drawings yet. We start with concept evaluation.

You have a reference product or sketches

You have a competitor product, reference images or hand sketches and want your own improved version. We start with industrial and mechanical design.

You have a design that cannot be mass-produced

You already have renderings or a 3D model, but the structure was not designed for injection molding, or you cannot find a factory to tool and produce it. We start with a DFM review and mechanical optimization.

8 stages, one team

What we do at each stage, and what you receive, is agreed before we start.

  1. Concept evaluation and product definition

What we do: map the use case, target market, competitors and cost range; define the feature list, key dimensions and material direction. What you get: a product definition and development recommendations.

  2. Industrial design

What we do: form, color, material and surface finish concepts. What you get: renderings to confirm the style and direction.

  3. Mechanical design

What we do: housing split lines, snap-fits, screw bosses, ribs and assembly method, with the injection molding DFM review completed during design. What you get: a 3D mechanical model.

  4. Electronics layout and integration

What we do: fit the PCB, battery, buttons, connectors, display, lighting, speaker and sensors into the structure, including routing space. What you get: a complete 3D assembly model of the product.

  5. 3D-printed / CNC prototype validation

What we do: build prototypes to validate appearance, structure, assembly and user experience, then refine the design after testing. What you get: prototype units and the updated design files.

  6. Mold making and trial

What we do: build the mold in our own mold shop (±0.01 mm, up to 1.5 m), run trials on 80T–1300T presses and ship samples for approval. What you get: T1 samples and an approval report.

  7. Injection molding and surface finishing

What we do: production on 90+ injection molding machines, 2 robotic painting lines, screen printing, pad printing, UV printing, laser marking and conductive coating. What you get: production parts that match the approved samples.

  8. Clean assembly, testing and shipping

What we do: insert assembly, complete product assembly, functional testing and packaging on 5 clean assembly lines. What you get: finished products ready to sell.

Why design and manufacture under one roof

Manufacturability is solved at the design stage

Our mechanical engineers and mold engineers are one team, so wall thickness, draft, snap-fits and gates are designed for injection molding from the first drawing instead of being fixed after the mold is cut.

One contact, one schedule

No separate design agency, mold shop, molder, paint shop and assembler to coordinate, which cuts communication overhead, quality risk and project management time.

Quality across the whole process

An 18-person quality team with 2D vision measuring systems, a CMM, temperature and humidity chamber, salt spray tester and impact tester; ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 systems; BSCI and Sedex audited.

R&D Team

ODM projects are handled by Hongqing's own R&D team, not outsourced to a design agency. The team includes Red Dot Design Award-winning designers.

How to start

  1. Send your idea or materials

A brief, reference images, sketches, competitor links or a sample, sent through the enquiry form or by email.

  2. Engineering review

We reply within 1 business day, confirm the requirements and tell you what else we need.

  3. Proposal and quotation

We provide the development plan, stage-by-stage schedule and quotation; the project starts once you approve.

Confidentiality & IP

We understand how sensitive design data is during development. Raise NDA signing, the permitted use of your drawings and 3D files, and mold ownership when you enquire, and we will confirm each point with you.

Case studies are being prepared. If you would like to see experience on products similar to yours, contact us and we will share references under confidentiality.

Frequently Asked Questions

I only have an idea and no drawings. Can you still develop it?

Yes. That is exactly where ODM development starts. We begin with concept evaluation and product definition, then work through industrial design, mechanical design, electronics and prototype validation before tooling and mass production.

Can you do the design only, without production?

Yes. Design and manufacturing can be commissioned separately. However, when the same team designs and builds the mold, manufacturability is solved during design and later mold rework is reduced.

Can you go straight to tooling once the design is done?

Yes. The DFM review is completed during mechanical design, so once the prototype is approved the mold goes straight into our own mold shop without another factory having to re-evaluate it.

You have not worked in my industry before. Can you still develop my product?

Yes. We have developed products across industries, including electric toothbrushes, timer switches, LED lights, TRV thermostatic radiator valves, temperature sensors, heating elements, pet products, stands and 3C enclosures. The development process is the same; industry differences show up in materials, structure and test requirements, and those are defined at the concept evaluation stage.

How long does development take?

It depends on product complexity, the number of molds and the surface processes. We give you a stage-by-stage schedule after the concept evaluation.

What is your minimum order quantity?

With more than 90 injection molding machines from 80T to 1300T, Hongqing handles sample runs and small-batch pilot production as well as stable high-volume delivery. The minimum order depends on the product structure and mold solution; contact us for details.
