OEM/ODM Plastic Product Development & Manufacturing
Hongqing is a one-stop OEM/ODM manufacturer in Dongguan, China. Have drawings? We build the molds, mold the parts, finish, assemble and ship. Only an idea? Our in-house R&D team starts from industrial design, mechanical and electronics engineering and carries it through to mass production. One team, one factory, so you never have to coordinate a design agency, a mold shop, a molder and an assembler separately.

OEM and ODM: wherever you start, we take it from there
Both models are delivered by Hongqing's own team. The only difference is the starting point.
OEM: you provide drawings or a sample
For brands and engineering teams whose design is complete and who need a reliable manufacturing partner. We run a DFM (design for manufacturability) review on your 2D/3D drawings, advise on wall thickness, draft angles, snap-fits and gate locations, then build and trial the mold in our own mold shop. After sample approval we move into injection molding, surface finishing, assembly and shipping.
ODM: you provide an idea or a product brief
For customers who have a product concept, competitor references, sketches or a requirements list but no drawings yet. Our R&D team of industrial designers, mechanical engineers and electronics engineers handles concept evaluation, industrial design, mechanical design and electronics integration, validates the design with 3D-printed and CNC prototypes, and only then builds the mold, so manufacturability is designed in from day one.
OEM process: from drawings to shipment
-
Drawings and requirements
2D/3D files, material requirements, color and surface requirements, estimated annual volume, and any certification or test standards you need to meet.
-
DFM review and quotation
Our engineers review wall thickness, draft angles, snap-fits, screw bosses and gate locations, then propose the mold solution, material options and a quotation.
-
Mold design and manufacturing
In-house mold shop with Sodick EDM, Sodick wire EDM and Makino high-speed machining centers; machining accuracy ±0.01 mm; molds up to 1.5 m.
-
Mold trial and sample approval
Mold trials (T1–Tn) on 80T–1300T presses; samples shipped for dimensional, cosmetic and assembly approval, with mold adjustments where needed.
-
Injection molding production
90+ injection molding machines, 40+ at 300T and above, 7 two-shot machines and vertical presses for insert molding; ABS, PC, PP, PA, POM, TPE, TPU and other engineering plastics.
-
Surface finishing
2 robotic spray painting lines, screen printing, pad printing, UV printing, laser marking, conductive coating and heat-staked inserts.
-
Assembly, testing and shipping
5 clean assembly lines handle insert assembly, complete product assembly, functional testing and packaging, shipped to your delivery schedule.
ODM process: from idea to mass production
Compared with OEM, ODM adds five development stages before tooling. Everything after that is identical.
-
Concept evaluation and product definition
We map the use case, target market, competitors and cost range, and define the feature list and key dimensions.
-
Industrial design
Form, color and material concepts delivered as renderings to lock in the overall look.
-
Mechanical design
Housing split lines, snap-fits, screw bosses, ribs and assembly method, designed with injection molding feasibility in mind.
-
Electronics layout and integration
Fitting the PCB, battery, buttons, connectors, display, lighting, speaker and sensors into the mechanical design.
-
3D-printed / CNC prototype validation
Prototypes validate appearance, structure, assembly and user experience; the design is refined before tooling starts.
-
Tooling, molding, finishing and assembly
From here the process is the same as OEM: in-house mold making, trial and approval, injection molding, surface finishing, clean assembly and shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between OEM and ODM, and which should I choose?
With OEM you supply drawings or a sample and we manufacture to them. With ODM you supply an idea or a brief and we design, engineer and then manufacture. Choose OEM if your design is complete; choose ODM if you have no drawings yet or want the manufacturer to design for manufacturability. Tooling, molding, finishing and assembly are identical in both models.
What do I need to send for a quotation?
OEM: 2D/3D drawings (STEP, IGS, DWG, etc.), material and color requirements, surface requirements and estimated annual volume. ODM: your product idea or brief, reference images or competitor products, target market and cost range, and the features you expect. Incomplete information is fine to start with; we will tell you what else we need.
Can you do design only, without manufacturing at Hongqing?
Yes. Design and manufacturing can be commissioned separately. That said, when the same team designs and builds the mold, manufacturability issues are solved at the design stage and later mold rework is reduced, which is why most customers choose the one-stop route.
What kinds of products have you developed?
Electric toothbrushes, combs, timer switches, smart home timers, LED lights, TRV thermostatic radiator valves, temperature sensors, heating elements, pet products, stands and mounts, 3C device enclosures, as well as appliance parts, automotive components and industrial equipment housings.
What is your minimum order quantity?
With more than 90 injection molding machines from 80T to 1300T, Hongqing handles sample runs and small-batch pilot production as well as stable high-volume delivery. The minimum order depends on the product structure and mold solution; contact us for details.
How long does development take?
Lead time depends on product complexity, the number of molds and the surface processes involved. We provide a stage-by-stage schedule after the concept evaluation. Contact us with your product information for a specific timeline.
Which file formats do you accept?
3D: STEP, IGS, X_T, STL. 2D: DWG, DXF, PDF. References: images, videos and physical samples are all welcome.
